If you’re anything like us, you’re looking forward to celebrating Independence Day next week with a big outdoor family cookout, colorful sparklers, and a beautiful fireworks display. And what better to accompany the hot dogs you’re planning to grill than a topping of this zesty onion relish? Plus, it’s just as tasty on hamburgers, turkey burgers, and chicken sandwiches as it is on franks!
2 large onions, cut into quarters and thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
⅓ cup of ketchup
1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp. of water
¾ tsp. of sugar
- Mix all of the ingredients together in a nonreactive pan, and simmer until the onions are translucent (about 15 minutes).
- Pour the mixture into a container, cover tightly, and store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
