It’s a brand new year, and if you’re like me, you’ve set a New Year’s Resolution you want to stick to. The most common resolution is, of course – losing weight! But most people abandon this resolution before the month of January even ends. If your resolution is struggling through the winter, take a peek at these nifty tools to kick you in the right direction:
- Portion control salad dressing cruet. These plastic bottles have markings along the side, allowing you to measure how much dressing you want to have on your salad – skipping the calorie counting altogether. Most bottles are suitable for all kinds of dressings from vinaigrettes to bleu cheese. Just make sure you shake well before you pour!
- Microwavable popcorn poppers. I’ve seen these neat tools used mostly for parties, but if you want to control your portions while enjoying your favorite popped snack, this is the toy for you! You can buy popcorn kernels by the plastic bottle and scoop out however much, or little, you’d like to enjoy. Dump the kernels into the plastic tub and pop it into the microwave. Be sure to check that your popcorn popper is BPA free – not all of them had to be until recently.
- Fish tongs. Sometimes the most frustrating thing about cooking fish is trying to flip it. Forks can prematurely cut the meat, and oversized tongs can make it difficult to pick up the delicate slice. Fortunately, there are dozens of smaller-sized tongs that can handle the fish fillets. You’ll want to pick a pair that has at least one side with rubber on it – it will keep the fish from sliding off when picking it up.
These are just a few of the tools that can help you on your weight-loss journey. There are scads more out there – food scales, spiralizers, oil misters – that can help you make more versatile meals as you drop the pounds!
